THE STORY :
Shortly after the death of her mother, medical student Nancy Adams (Blake Lively) travels to a secluded beach in Mexico to surf, which is also the same beach her mother surfed at after finding out she was pregnant with Nancy many years before. She finds herself on the feeding ground of a great white shark. While riding a wave back to the beach, the shark bumps her surf board, causing her to fall and hit her head on a submerged rock formation. Nancy swims to an isolated reef. With high tide approaching, Nancy knows the reef will be submerged soon....

OUR REVIEW :
Jaume Collet-Serra is a Spanish film-maker who used the right timing for this refreshing splash, coming as it does during a deadening summer of sequels. The Shallows delivers on its promise : Blake Lively, in a bikini, fighting an an enormous white shark white shark. The camera photographs her above the water, under the water, through the water and with her legs wrapped around a dead and bleeding whale. The Shallows is a film that even while the premise is ridiculous, it´s anything but dumb.
