THE STORY
“SECOND ACT“ is a Workplace Comedy with Maya (Jennifer Lopez), a 40-Year-Old Store Employee who gets passed over for a Promotion at the Superstore she manages, just because she never finished High School. She lives with a Doting Boyfriend, Trey (Milo Ventimiglia), who wants to start a Family despite her Reluctance. her Best Work Friend (Leah Remini) has a Whiz-Kid Son who sends out a Doctored Résumé and cooks up a Phony Facebook Page. Maya becomes an Ivy League Graduate and Peace Corps Alumna whose Faux-Vita catches the Eye of Anderson Clarke (Treat Williams), CEO of a Cosmetics Corporation attempting to rebrand....

OUR REVIEW
"Second Act" is an Attempt to revitalize the J. Lo brand and put the now 49-year-old One-Woman Industry back on the Big Screen. The Film feels Finely tailored to her. Her Long Trajectory of Workplace Romantic Comedies placed a Woman of Colour Centre Stage, even Vaguely hinting at Issues of Race and Class beyond a Patina of WASPy-ness and Wedding Dresses... It´s been over 17 Years since she delighted us in “The Wedding Planner“ and “Maid in Manhattan“, and they remain the Films, for Better of Worse, we most associate with Lopez in this Genre. This Time is no Different.

What the Film also accomplishes is Both solidifying Jennifer Lopez´s Timeless Charm and revealing her Aging Audience. Though she has a Hot, Young Love Interest in Trey (Milo Ventimiglia), the Focus isn´t on getting her Man back. Instead the Plot builds around Maya´s Relationship with her Best Friend (Leah Remini), her Struggle with her Past and her Efforts to pivot down an Entirely Different Channel in the “Second Act“ of her Career.... Maya wants more... To have it all.... Maya´s Wish is the Movie´s Command !
