THE STORY
Centuries ago, Five African Tribes war over a Meteorite containing Vibranium. One Warrior ingests a "heart-shaped herb" affected by the metal and gains Superhuman Abilities, becoming the first "Black Panther". He unites all but the Jabari Tribe to form the Nation of Wakanda. Over time, the Wakandans use the Vibranium to develop advanced Technology and isolate themselves from the World by posing as a Third WorldCcountry.
In 1992, King T'Chaka (John Kani) visits his undercover brother N'Jobu (Sterling K. Brown) in Oakland, California. T'Chaka accuses N'Jobu of assisting black market arms dealer Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis) with stealing vibranium from Wakanda. In the present day, following T'Chaka's death at the hands of Helmut Zemo, his son T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) returns to Wakanda to assume the Throne....

OUR REVIEW
Wakanda is a model of serenity. It is a Kingdom, wisely ruled, and rich in a Precious Natural Resource, Vibranium, which is used for hyper-technology. Foreign marauders have never pillaged that wealth, because they know nothing about it. There have been Black Superheroes before but none have been given dominion over a Blockbuster.
Few Recent Movies have been more keenly anticipated than this one, in regard both to its box-office potential and to the force of its mythmaking. With its vision of an unplundered Homeland, blooming from Liberty rather than from Bondage. Vibranium is no more real than the Philosopher´s Stone. Do numbers alone make the difference ? Are 3-D spectacles any reliable when we seek to imagine an Ideal Society ?

Other superhero movies have dabbled in big ideas but their Commitments to the Moral and Political Questions they contemplated were relatively peripheral. The Arguments Black Panther undertakes with itself are Central to its Architecture, a Narrative Spine that runs from the first Scene to the last.
